AI-Assisted Police ReportPlatform Comparison

Explore how leading platforms obtain source material, generate draft narratives, support officer editing, preserve audit information, and connect with agency systems.

Neutrality and verification notice. This resource organizes publicly available and vendor-supplied information for comparative review. Shield Public Safety Training does not endorse, rank, certify, or recommend any vendor or platform. Product functions, integrations, performance claims, pricing, security representations, and contractual terms should be verified directly with each vendor.

How AI-Assisted Report Platforms Operate

This section explains the operational sequence used by the platforms. It describes source material, automated processing, human review, and system transfer without assigning a ranking or value judgment.

Source Material

Officer notes, dictation, BWC audio, CAD/RMS data, radio, 911 recordings, uploaded files, or citizen interview responses.

Data Processing

Transcription, speaker identification, fact extraction, incident association, chronology, and structured-field preparation.

Draft Generation

Narrative text, structured report fields, summaries, timelines, forms, or other documentation may be produced.

Human Review

An officer, records employee, or supervisor reviews the output, corrects errors, adds information, and approves the result.

Submission or Transfer

The final report may remain in a native RMS, transfer through an integration, export as a document, or enter a review queue.

Source-Traceability Illustration

This demonstration shows the types of provenance information that may be associated with a sentence. It is illustrative only; source-traceability functions vary by product and configuration.

Illustrative report language

The officer contacted the driver at the vehicle. The driver stated that he had consumed two beers before operating the vehicle. The officer then continued the investigation.

Select the highlighted sentence to display possible source classifications.

Possible Source Record

BWC transcriptRecording identifier and timestamp, where available.
Officer note or dictationOriginal officer-entered source and time created.
Witness or subject statementInterview record, transcript, or associated audio.
Generated synthesisStatement assembled from more than one source, where the platform identifies those sources.

Platform Overview

Filter the platforms by source material or operational characteristic. Expand any card to review the drafting, editing, integration, audit, and published-metric information.

Side-by-Side Comparison

Select up to three platforms. The table displays the same categories for each selected product without assigning a ranking or overall grade.

No platforms selected.

Objective Comparison Metrics

These measurable categories can be used to structure a pilot or compare information supplied by vendors. Their inclusion does not indicate that any one metric should control an agency decision.

End-to-End Completion Time

Time from incident clearance through supervisor acceptance, including generation, officer review, corrections, and resubmission.

Active Officer Editing Time

Time actively spent reviewing and modifying the generated draft before submission.

Edit-Distance Ratio

Percentage of generated text added, deleted, or replaced before the report is accepted.

Unsupported-Statement Rate

Generated factual assertions that cannot be traced to identified source material.

Source-Attribution Accuracy

Accuracy of source recording, document, timestamp, speaker, and evidentiary attribution.

Omission Rate

Percentage of predetermined material facts or required report elements absent from the initial draft.

Attribution-Error Rate

Frequency with which statements or actions are assigned to the wrong participant.

Temporal-Sequence Accuracy

Accuracy of the order, timing, and separation of events reflected in the draft narrative.

Supervisor Return Rate

Percentage of reports returned for correction and the average number of revision cycles.

Integration Burden

Manual transfers, duplicate entries, upload delays, failed matches, and other workflow steps.

System Availability

Uptime, failed-generation rate, processing delays, and the frequency of unavailable source material.

Cost per Accepted Report

Licensing, implementation, integration, storage, training, and support divided by accepted reports.

Criteria-Based Comparison

Users may assign relative importance to selected characteristics. The output shows alignment with the user-entered criteria and does not identify a winner, preferred platform, or procurement outcome.

Choose a relative weight from 0 to 5 for each characteristic. A zero excludes the characteristic. The calculation uses descriptive platform attributes included in this page and is intended only to organize the user’s selected criteria.

The displayed alignment is not a product rating and should not be treated as a substitute for agency testing, legal review, security review, contracting analysis, or verification of vendor claims.

Descriptive Criteria Matrix

The matrix uses neutral status labels rather than a product grade. “Directly aligned” means the publicly described workflow expressly addresses the selected characteristic. “Partially aligned” means the characteristic appears available in a limited or configuration-dependent form. “Requires confirmation” means public information is insufficient. “Not applicable” identifies a different product category or workflow.

Directly aligned Partially aligned Requires confirmation Not applicable

Platform Information Worksheet

An organizational tool for collecting comparable information from vendors. The worksheet does not endorse, rank, recommend, or establish which criteria should control an agency’s decision.

Purpose: Record vendor responses, supporting documents, demonstrations, pilot observations, and contract language in a consistent format.

Terminology

These definitions distinguish technologies that are sometimes grouped together under the broad label of artificial intelligence.

Transcription

Conversion of spoken audio into written text.

Summarization

Condensation of longer source material into a shorter account.

Narrative Generation

Production of report prose from notes, transcripts, structured data, or other sources.

Structured-Data Extraction

Identification of names, dates, locations, offenses, property, or other fields from unstructured material.

Source Provenance

Information identifying where a factual statement or data element originated.

Audit Log

A record of actions, versions, edits, users, dates, or system events.

Methodology, Evidence Labels, and Update History

This section explains how information is categorized and how future changes can be documented.

Neutrality

The project describes platform functions and measurable characteristics. It does not identify a preferred vendor, award a grade, or determine whether a platform is appropriate for a particular agency.

Evidence Labels

Vendor-published Agency testimonial Contract or procurement record Independent study Not publicly identified

Each performance claim or capability should be assigned the most accurate available label. A label describes the source of the information; it does not indicate that the claim has been independently validated.

Information Treatment

  • Separate product functions from vendor performance claims.
  • Identify configuration-dependent features.
  • Identify when information is not publicly available.
  • Distinguish officer-report-writing tools from citizen-reporting tools.
  • Use the same descriptive categories for each platform.
