Welcome to Shield Public Safety Training. I’m honored to lead this organization, which my partner, John Peters, Ph.D., and I founded with a clear mission: to provide law enforcement professionals with the highest-quality, in-depth training on the cutting-edge issues shaping our profession today.

After more than three decades representing and advising law enforcement agencies, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges officers, supervisors, managers, and executives face—constitutional demands, operational complexities, rapid technological change, and evolving expectations from the communities we serve. Too often, training is either outdated, impractical, or disconnected from real operational needs.

Shield was built to change that.

Our programs are designed to be practical, usable, and immediately applicable. We focus on the issues that matter most—emerging legal standards, liability prevention, policy development, AI and technology, internal affairs, corrections, disability compliance, leadership, and more. Every course is grounded in real-world experience, legal expertise, and current research, delivered in a format that law enforcement professionals can put to work the very next day.

To reflect our values and purpose, we built an acrostic around the name SHIELD—a reminder of who we are and why we train:

John Peters, Jr., Ph.D.

Vice-President, Shield Public Safety Training

John G. Peters, Jr., Ph.D. serves as Vice President of Shield and curates training programs, facilitates delivery of these programs, and is also a presenter. John joined Shield after serving as Executive Director of AELE. A past appointed member of the United States Secret Service Defensive Tactics Panel, he is also a former law enforcement administrator, deputy sheriff, and police officer. John has pioneered, developed, and provided effective and practical training programs for law enforcement, corrections, security, and military organizations and/or units for several decades. An experienced expert witness and author with more than 360 publications, John has also taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in criminal justice, business, and communication. Experienced in Artificial Intelligence (AI), he is a graduate of the MIT Sloan School of Management and Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, “Applied Business Science course with a concentration in AI Automation,” and is currently enrolled in other AI and leadership programs to stay current in these advancing fields. He has served as a video scriptwriter, producer, director, and/or editor for several organizations.
